Honfest    
Honfest celebrates all things Baltimore. Held in the Hamden neighborhood of the city, Honfest has grown into a hugely successful event featuring Best Hon contests for all ages amidst live music, Spam bowling and other entertainment too long to list.

It is truly amazing, how an event, like Honfest grew into the formidable festival it is today. I would like to think it's because the event's originality lies in the true character of a city it builds on. Hamden has it rough, too: it is usually bitter cold for their Mayor's Christmas Parade and melting hot for the Honfest. Although I have been covering the event in panoramics for three years, this is the first time I managed not to miss the opportunity to get on stage with Miss Lil' Hons [NOT the Hons in this panorama ;^)]. This is partly due to my daughter reaching an age of greater cooperation, though not quite one to participate just yet.

Absolut beauties. At least they would think so, if they cared. But clearly, this bunch is above that, and that's the very essence that will keep them in style for years to come. Even if only on the Hamden streets of Baltimore.

I hear it from the tip of your tongue: "You cant't start them young enough". But, actually, you can. Here you're looking at the teenage group of contenders in the 'Honette' category, but there's also one for the weenie ones, under the title 'Lil' Miss Hon'. They came on a bit too early for me to make it, but then again - could I have taken any more? I think 'YES' . . .

More relevant to the store they performed in front of than to Honfest itself, the Dragon Caravan belly dancers nevertheless added a great colorspot to the event.

Beehive Beauty Parlour | 2005-06-11

One of the hottest spots at Honfest is the Beuty Parlour where Hons and wannabees of all ages can get their beehives on. Complete with pink flamingos and other mandatory Baltimore kitsch. They will swear that what Austin Powers really says is 'Oh, Beehive'.

Baltimore's Best Hon Contest | 2005-06-11

The namesake event of Honfest is the Best Hon Contest. Although the Best Honette and the Miss Lil' Hon pageants which precede the crowning gets everyone in the mood, it is this contest which brings the roars. Easy to see why.
